Meet Nik: Brave Pup Fights Against All Odds for a Brighter Future
A dog with serious injuries is suspected to have a spinal injury, as its back legs are immobile and it drags itself along the ground. The hind legs are severely swollen and hurt from the constant scraping on concrete and roads.
Frightened and shivering, the dog initially reacted with fear to attempts to help. It's unclear how long it endured such distress before being rescued, but it is safe now.
Tomorrow, a visit to the vet is scheduled for a thorough check-up and treatment plan.
The dog's body temperature is stable and tests are negative for diseases spread by insects. A catheter was needed because its bladder was full, and there are complications with urination.
Despite this, the dog, now called Nik, shows responses to touch and pain, which is a good sign. Nik has started on antibiotics, which might reduce pressure from his spinal paresis, and is also receiving dexamethasone to aid in his recovery.
In the coming days, we'll be fully committed to Nik's therapy and fluid infusions. Currently, Nik only eats meat, rejecting other foods, and experiences vomiting after meals.
Despite these challenges, Nik has shown remarkable patience during treatments and even wagged his tail today for the first time.
Although his chances of walking normally are slim, they aren't zero. We'll do everything possible to help him improve.
