Officer Sara Rogers of the Augusta Police Department was dispatched on July 16 to retrieve an abandoned injured dog.

She took the puppy to a local veterinarian as authorities searched for her owner but were unsuccessful.

Throughout her shift, Officer Rogers checked on the puppy to make sure she was okay until the Kennebec Humane Society employees came.

Officer Rogers even took a food break with the puppy, and the two of them had already developed a strong bond.

Rogers realized she needed to do more to aid this adorable puppy. They never found an owner, so she opted to foster her until she was ready for adoption.
