Rogers realized she needed to do more to aid this adorable puppy. They never found an owner, so she opted to foster her until she was ready for adoption.

Rogers, on the other hand, couldn't let the puppy go when it was time for her to find a forever home.

Rogers made the decision to permanently adopt the puppy, which she has named Rey after the Star Wars Jedi.

The August Police Department posted a picture of the cute duo with the touching narrative on their Facebook page.

They wrote, "You have to adore happy endings!" And this is one for the record books!
