Rescued Doberman Spencer Heals and Finds Joy in New Forever Home
It's hard for many dog lovers to comprehend why someone would intentionally harm an innocent animal. Sometimes, cruelty is senseless and leaves us baffled. This was certainly true for Spencer, a Doberman who endured a lot of mistreatment during his first year of life.
Spencer was found on a South Carolina freeway after being hit by a car. The poor pup was desperately searching for food, settling for roadkill to survive.
Concerned citizens brought him to Paws & Claws, an animal rescue center in Columbia, South Carolina, where his injuries became apparent to the veterinary team.
The vets noticed Spencer's badly cropped ears, suggesting a crude home job, and X-rays showed a collection of sharp bird bones in his stomach, threatening to cause severe internal injuries. He also bore cuts on his head and legs in need of stitches, and worst of all, he had a fractured back likely resulting from the car accident.
It seemed Spencer had either escaped a neglectful owner or was abandoned, left to survive on his own. Fortunately, the VCA Animal Specialty Center of South Carolina offered hope. Despite his injuries, Spencer was still able to feel his legs. The medical team was optimistic that surgery would repair his spine and restore his ability to walk.
With successful back surgery, Spencer embarked on his journey to recover. The sharp bones in his stomach began to pass naturally and safely. Everything seemed to be progressing well.
Thanks to the compassionate care of the staff and dedicated physical therapy, Spencer made impressive strides. Initially, he required full support to walk, but soon, he was moving without the aid of a sling.
Spencer's resilience brought him back to his lively self, now walking freely. "He's a wonderful dog who is young, cheerful, and in good health. He's ready to embrace life to the fullest," one staff member shared.
Update: Spencer has found his forever home!
It's heartwarming to know Spencer now has a loving family, complete with new canine siblings. His adoptive parents keep fans updated via his Facebook page, where you can follow Spencer's journey in his happy new life.
