SPCA Appeals for Public Help After Injured Dog Lavender Is Found Abandoned in Philadelphia Park
The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is seeking the public's help after a dog was found tied to a tree in Pennypack Park, located in Northeast Philadelphia, on Monday.
The situation came to light when the Animal Care and Control Team informed the SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Team. Responding swiftly, they took the dog to their shelter's hospital to receive necessary treatment.
Initially referred to as Lovie, the dog has since been given the name Lavender by the shelter staff.
Lavender was discovered with a serious facial injury, and veterinarians are working to determine how these injuries occurred. The extent of the damage affects her nasal airways, leaving her without visible nostrils.
While she is currently able to breathe through her mouth, there are concerns that she might never regain normal breathing functionality.
In their efforts to provide care and find those responsible, the SPCA's Law Enforcement team is appealing to anyone with information about Lavender's identity or previous owner to reach out. They are committed to helping her recover and transition into a new chapter of her life.
Though the details of Lavender's past are largely unknown, including how she was abandoned in the sprawling woods of Pennypack Park, Nicole Wilson, director of humane law enforcement at the PSPCA, emphasized the importance of community involvement.
She stated, "There is someone out there who knows this puppy. We urge those people to step forward, share what they know, and help us bring those responsible to justice."
