The shelter staff wanted Sammy to have an unforgettable day, but also for his birthday to serve as an opportunity to be adopted.

The shelter wrote on Facebook :

"Happy birthday to this beautiful boy who would love a nice quiet house to live out his golden years!"

The post was accompanied by a series of photos showing Sammy and his human friends celebrating his big birthday. In addition, you could see all the preparations for the party and how happy she was being the center of attention, posing with a beautiful hat.

Ray also said

Our medical staff does not feel he needs any extra care despite the fact that he has a heart murmur and a little lump under his ear.

Even after finding a forever home, Sammy kept getting adoption requests from several people who were touched by his story.

The shelter has capitalized on Sammy's fame by inviting people to consider adopting another animal in need.

Ray commented:

"We encourage anyone whose heart is warmed by Sammy's birthday party to adopt from their local animal shelter – they all need you right now."
